Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) Event on Student Leadership

Mr van Rooyen, Ms Thomas and the Year 8 ‘Talk to Learn’ students were invited to attend an SSAT event on Student Leadership hosted by Ricards Lodge School in Wimbledon on the 2nd December 2009. This conference was student led and our ‘Talk to Learn’ students did our school proud by preparing and running a student training workshop on the ‘Talk to Learn’ project which they lead at Charles Edward Brooke School. The students were Chevone Lawrence, Ciara Reid, Jannah Akther, Vivien Adeyanju, Jamie Gayya and Symone Wilkey-Hedman

The students led and attended other workshops focussing on student leadership roles in their various schools.

The Charles Edward Brooke student training workshop was well attended. After overcoming their initial nerves our students got into the flow of presenting, confidently training other students how to use the observational tools they use to feed back to teachers after their lessons.

There was a purposeful Q and A session afterwards with regards to the ‘Talk to Learn’ project at CEBS and staff from other schools went away from the conference with an idea of how to implement a similar structure of learners as observers in their schools.
