A school with a bright future
Charles Edward Brooke, a small Church of England Girls’ School in Camberwell, has received the public recognition it truly deserves.
The school received a letter from the Minister of State for Schools and Learners, Vernon Coaker MP, congratulating them on “the excellent performance” the school demonstrated at Key Stage 4 in the 2009 Achievement and Attainment Tables published earlier this year.
Vernon Coaker MP continued by saying that "the results for your school show that you are amongst the top performing schools this year based on sustained improvement in 5+ A*-C GCSEs (and equivalent) including English and Mathematics GCSEs."
This year saw the school achieve an 11% improvement in 5+ A*-C grades with English and Maths, with 48% of students achieving these results. The 5+ A*-C grades rose by 3% to 57%.
Furthermore, 100% of students secured 5+ A*-C grades, which means every single student is able to progress to further study or training. There were some outstanding individual performances with many students obtaining higher grades in all of the GCSEs (up to twelve) for which they were entered.
The recent Ofsted inspection of Charles Edward Brooke also confirmed the excellent progress that the school has made when it officially judged the school to be “good with a curriculum that is outstanding in the way that it meets students’ needs”.
Headteacher, Wendy Cooper said: "We are delighted that our achievements have been recognised. This is the result of the hard work and determination of the whole school community. We are determined to build on the successes achieved to date and move the school from good to outstanding and to continue to drive up students' achievements within a positive and supportive environment."
